Our organization began in 2009 through the efforts of five women that included the previous Cadillac Wexford Public Library director, two retired special education teachers, an active elementary teacher, and a community member who had previously begun a non- profit. What all of these women shared was the experience of having seen the extent of illiteracy in the adult population of the communities of Wexford County and surrounding areas.

Their dedication to do something about these learning problems and offer families a path towards a brighter future led them to Friends of Cadillac Wexford Library, a non-profit dedicated to improving literacy, who agreed to take the Literacy Council on under their 501(c)3 umbrella.
